Senior Legal Counsel

Moorebank Intermodal Company (MIC) is a wholly owned Australian Government entity established to facilitate the development of an intermodal terminal at Moorebank - a nationally significant infrastructure project that will help Sydney manage the expected growth in freight moving through the city.

MIC has entered into agreements with Sydney Intermodal Terminal Alliance (SIMTA) to develop and operate the terminal. SIMTA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qube Holdings, one of Australia's largest and most experienced operators in the freight logistic industry.

Moorebank Logistics Park will deliver a range of benefits for the local community and broader economy, including: over $11 billion in economic benefits, including $120 million for south-western Sydney; the creation of around 6,800 jobs; a reduction in congestion growth in south-western Sydney through fewer trucks on the road; a better outcome for the environment and a package of community improvements.

Your new role

Reporting to the General Counsel and Company Secretary, you will be responsible for providing high quality legal, procurement, governance and strategic advice on matters pertaining to the company and the board.

You will also work closely with the Delivery team, providing sound contract management advice and utilising your negotiation and problem solving skills to address strategic issues that arise during project delivery.

Other aspects of the role include providing advice and assisting in the management of contractual disputes and managing and coordinating external legal counsel regarding legal advice and dispute management.

What you’ll need to succeed

You will hold a current Australian practising certificate and bring around 8 years’ experience in construction law, tendering and procurement and dispute resolution gained within an in house or private practice environment. You will have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills in order to engage with, influence and build relationships with key stakeholders. You will also be comfortable working independently and autonomously.
